A SUSPECTED serial killer rapist (21) has abandoned his bail application in the Piet Retief Magistrates Court on Thursday, 9 June.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said his arrest comes after he was linked to multiple cases of rape, murder and attempted rape in various areas.

“On 2 May 2022 at about 8am, the body of a woman (28) was found by the community with multiple stab wounds at Dirkiesdorp and suspected to have been raped. The police investigation led to the arrest of the suspect on the same day of the discovery, and was positively linked to the incident. Upon seeing the police, he tried to run away but he was bust.

“Clothes with blood stains were also discovered at his house. He further made confessions and pointing out of other crime scenes of murder and rapes where a 16-year-old girl was raped and strangled to death in July last year, and another where a woman was raped and stabbed to death.

The suspect would either follow or attack his victims, suspected to be known to him, during the night then rape, stab, struggle or slit their throats.

DNA analysis are being conducted and the suspect is likely to be linked to more other cases.

Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela has commended the team of detectives from Dirkiesdorp for the suspect’s arrest.

“We applaud the team for a sterling work and leaving no stone unturned in dealing with this matter as well as for their level of commitment and dedication which ensured the suspect is brought to book.”
