HE left the door of his flat unlocked and left with his Polo on Sunday, 27 August.
Since then, nobody has heard about the whereabouts of Constable Akhile Prince Mkhundlu (28) from Gugulethu, who is attached to the Nyanga cop shop.
His mother, Nomaphondo Mkhundlu (62), said it is unusual for his son not to lock his door when he leaves home.
She said his son was on sick leave the whole of last week.
Gogo Nomaphondo said her son was to start work on Monday, 28 August, and that is when they realised he had not returned home the previous night.
“We are still confused about what happened because this is unlike him. I tried to call him, and his phone was going through at first, but later it went to voicemail.
"His car, a VW Polo, doesn’t have a tracker. We don’t know where to look for him and what could have happened,” she said.

Nomaphondo said she had to go to his workplace to report that he had not returned home.
She said cops promised to look for him and had pinned her hope that his son’s colleagues would find him.
At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing grey tracksuit pants, crocs, a white tracksuit top and a black hooded jacket.
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident.
“Reports suggest that Akhile was scheduled to report to his place of employment on Monday the 28th of August, but did not. His mother opened a missing person report after she was informed that he never reported for work,” said Swartbooi.
He added that anyone who can assist with information leading to Akhile’s safe return to contact the investigation officer Captain Petros on 066 242 1686.
