FURIOUS Westbury residents in Joburg are threatening to shut down all entrances into their area until government attends to their grievances on gang-related violence and killings.
Businesspeople in the business centre, which is located in Hamilton Street, said they fear for their lives and wonder who will be killed next.
This after a pharmacist was gunned down, Faizel Mckenzie in his pharmacy on Monday, 25 March.
Business owner Anthony Mashaba told Daily Sun he was working when he suddenly heard gunshots. “I was speaking to a client on the phone,” he said.
He alleged this was a hit as nothing was taken from the pharmacy.
Another businessman said the shooting occurred at about 3pm when he was working in the workshop.
“I heard a lot of gunshots. When I went out to see what was happening, I saw three guys wearing balaclavas. They ran out of the pharmacy and fled the scene.

“Crime in the community is terrible, especially here in the shopping centre. Businesspeople live in fear. The cops should at least patrol this area, but they don’t. We are living in fear, which is not right,” said the businessman.
The police said they have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said: “It's alleged that the victim was in his pharmacy with his three employees when three unknown men wearing balaclavas entered the pharmacy, went straight to the pharmacist and started shooting at him."
Masondo said the suspects fled the scene and the victim was certified dead at the scene. He said the motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage, but the police opened a case of murder and are looking for the suspects.
The police appealed to anyone who might have information that can help their investigation to call the nearest police station or CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
