UNKNOWN shooters are on the run after a mass shooting in Durban, the DA painted Boksburg blue as a new leader was announced and Basadi owned the Joburg Theatre.

These are some of the news that made headlines over the weekend.

On Friday, 11 August, six people from Q Section in Umlazi, south of Durban, were gunned down during a mass shooting.

This after the suspects allegedly stormed into a house just before midnight and started shooting, killing six people and injuring one. A manhunt for the suspects is currently underway.

Also in Durban, people looted a clothing shop in the CBD. The looters allegedly broke open the roller door of a clothing shop on Friday evening, 11 August and stole clothes before escaping. 

There was also bloodshed in Gauteng when a patroller and two residents were shot and killed in Alexandra, extension 8 East Bank on Friday. No arrests have been made and investigations into the matter continue.

Going into Saturday, Gauteng police turned Joburg CBD upside down while uncovering illicit and counterfeit goods and searching abandoned buildings. This was part of Operation Shanela, which was led by Police Minister Bheki Cele.

Also on Saturday, the DA was a topic of interest when former Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga was re-elected as Gauteng DA leader, beating rival Khume Ramulifho.

During his acceptance speech, Msimanga called for unity in the party as they get ready for the elections where he vowed to unseat Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.

Basadi were represented well this year as various artists and media personalities including the Sun Girl, Andiswa Ngenyane came in numbers to honour their invitation at the second Annual Basadi In Music Awards.

Some of them received awards at the prestigious ceremony that took place at The Joburg Theatre on Saturday, 12 August. Royalty was the theme of the evening.

Thando Thabethe received the CEO Mosadi in Business Achievement Award alongside Boity Thulo and Nhlanhla Mafu. Unathi Nnkayi replaced actress Khanyi Mbau who was meant to host the awards. Kelly Khumalo gave an outstanding performance and also walked away with the Afro-pop Artist of the Year Award.

Onto your Sunday, 13 August news, Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi welcomed the interception of 67 Pakistani nationals at OR Tambo International Airport who wanted to enter the country without complying with the country's immigration laws.

The Miss South Africa final took place on at the Sun Bet Arena in Times Square, Tshwane on Sunday evening, where Mzansi’s top artists graced the stage with performances that held up to the promise of a glittering spectacle.
