A 43 year old man who tried to evade arrest by assaulting police was arrested.

This was at a joint operation between the Provincial Extortion Task Team and Moorreesburg SAPS where suspect was arrested for several charges.

Police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk said in a statement, “On Thursday, 09 June 2022, members acted on information received of a former SAPS member who was impersonating a police officer in Roosenhof, Malmesbury.

“They raided the suspect’s place of residence and found several police uniform items. The 43-year-old male tried evading arrest by assaulting a police officer.

“He was arrested for the possession of State property, assault of a police officer, impersonating a police officer and resisting arrest. Once charged, the suspect will appear in the Malmesbury Magistrate’s court.”

In an unrelated incident, a suspect wanted in Hillcrest was arrested by Citrusdal police last night.  A warrant of arrest was issued in Gauteng, following a house robbery and murder in Hillcrest. Information emerged revealing that the suspect resides in the Riverview informal settlement in Citrusdal. Having confirmed the whereabouts of the suspect, an operation was conducted and the suspect was arrested and detained. He will make his court appearance in the Clanwilliam Magistrate’s court today.

Van Wyk said in Nyanga police arrested four suspects who robbed an off duty SAPS member in Browns Farm yesterday, 09 June 2022. The Rondebosch based SAPS member was stopped by four suspects who pulled him out of his car and assaulted him. The suspects fled with his wallet and firearm. The members who were patrolling in the area spotted the four suspects and arrested all four of them. The property was recovered including the firearm. The suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s court, once charged.
