LUYANDA was invited by his friends to swim in a trench allegedly dug up by municipal contractors seven years ago.

But when he refused to get into the water, a 16-year-old nyaope addict who was allegedly smoking with his friends near the unfinished RDP flats came from behind and allegedly pushed Luyanda into the water. 

Luyanda Phakathi (11) from Wattville, Ekurhuleni then hit a rock at the bottom of the trench and died. When his friends saw that he was not surfacing, they went to call residents nearby.
