THUGS got into Golden Arrow Bus on Friday, 7 October and robbed passengers of their belongings.
They demanded money from the driver and started collecting money and cellphones from all the passengers in the bus.
The video that went viral on social media shows a man walking in the passage of the bus collecting money and phones from passengers. The passengers complied and handed over the phones and money.
One of the passengers, who spoke to the SunTeam, said: “It was scary that everyone had to comply and hand over their phones. We were warned that if we don’t co-operate, they will shoot. They took our money and phones then left.”
The incident happened along Spine Road in Khayelitsha when the bus that was coming from Melton Rose to Mitchell’s Plein via Khayelitsha was picking passengers at the bus stop in the area, about 300 metres from Lingelethu West cop shop.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said cops were investigating the incident and nobody has been arrested yet.
“The bus stopped near an Engen Garage on Spine Road when unknown armed men boarded the bus. The man threatened the driver while the others robbed the passengers of their valuables,” said Swartbooi.
Golden Arrow Bus Services spokeswoman Bronwen Dyke-Beyer confirmed the incident, but said they were unhappy that the footage they gave to cops ended up on social media.

“I can confirm the incident, which took place on Spine Road in Khayelitsha this morning. We were very shocked to hear that the footage had been placed on social media as we had shared it with SAPS in order to assist them in fulfilling their constitutional mandate to prevent and investigate crimes and to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended,” she said.
