WORKING from his backyard shack, Themba Limekhaya is making something really special.
He makes pizza, giving people in Orange Farm, south of Joburg, more options when they need go-to meals.
Now they’re not just limited to kota and skopo.
Themba said he worked as a freelance wedding photographer until last year, when he asked one of his clients to teach him the basics of making pizza.
“I bought ingredients and practised over and over again,” he said.
After a few people tasted his pizza and liked it, he decided to establish Mkhukhu Pizza.
“Local people like the idea that they don’t have to spend money for transport to the malls,” said Themba.
“We may not match the established pizza joints, but the locals appreciate the quality of my pizza.”
He said things started to shape up for him after some two young boys took photos of his pizzas and shared them on social media.
Themba prepares pizza in four flavours – russian, chicken mayo, mince and bacon.
“Chicken mayo is the favourite in the kasi,” he said.
He said it is hard for him to find pizza boxes and he also struggled to find mozzarella cheese. He said load shedding was also a challenge for his business.
Themba said he hopes that the business will soon grow so he could operate from a bigger place and expand to other areas.
