THE social grant landscape in South Africa is an evolving financial terrain as pensioners, people living with disabilities, unemployed youth and child grant recipients are anticipating a rise in stipends this year.

It looks like the government might have taken into consideration the concerns of people as the grants are expected to increase by between 5 to 5,6% when Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana delivers this year's budget speech on Wednesday, 21 February.

More than 18 million people in Mzansi are dependent on these grants which help with basic needs such as food, school, and clothing.

While some are feeling unhappy about the grant, others are relieved about the cash boost from the government.

The SNL24 team took to the streets of Randburg in Joburg where some Mzansi citizens are rejoicing in the potential grant hikes while others are doubtful, stating that the government's choice to increase the R350 grant for the unemployed is not a good decision as it reduces motivation to seek employment.
