Today marks the tenth anniversary of the day 34 mineworkers were shot and killed by the police during a wage protest in Marikana, North West.
Over ten people died in the days leading up to the massacre, including Lonmin mine security guards and police officers.
One South Africa Movement (OSA) Chief Activist, Mmusi Maimane will attend and address the annual Marikana commemoration event organised by the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU).
Maimane is expected to call for urgent reform of the mining sector, as well as request President Ramaphosa to declare 16 August a National Day of Commemoration.
