WATCH: Four dead in car pile-up crash

THE N3, near Mariannhill Toll Plaza in Durban, had to be closed following a multi-vehicle pile-up.

This after six cars and two trucks collided and resulted into four woman, who were in one car, tragically losing their lives. The tragic accident happened on Tuesday, 1 November.

It is alleged the driver of the small car lost control after its brakes failed. The car then collided into other cars, including the trucks.

Medi Response spokesman, Paul Herbst, said four women from one vehicle were killed.

“The Medi Response search-and-rescue division is currently on the scene. One light motor vehicle was swept beneath a truck and was severely damaged, killing all four occupants. Multiple patients are treated on the scene and the extrication of the deceased is ongoing,” said Herbst.

KZN police spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said it is alleged a truck driver lost control and collided with other vehicles.

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened for investigation,” Gwala said.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokeswoman, Zinhle Mngomezulu, also confirmed the accident, saying the scene is still active and the road had to be closed.
