SNAKING queues and customers fighting to get their hands on discounted products is how we've come to know Black Friday.

If South Africans weren't being squeezed dry by the high cost of living, Black Friday may very well have been a wonderful way to start the holiday season. But it seems Mzansi will be giving Black Friday deals the cold shoulder this year.

We took to the streets, and it seems the few who will be spending would prefer to shop in-store rather than online.

Numerous retailers around the country have started announcing their Black Friday deals that people can take advantage of this Friday, 24 November but South Africans are not having it!

Sifiso Mpembe said: “Looking at both the economy and my finances, I’m definitely not ready for Black Friday also taking into consideration the number of accidents that happen on that day when people are shopping.”

Benrico King said: "Although I'm not looking forward to Black Friday, if I had enough the money, I would have loved to shop for electronic deals."

The popular sale dates back to the United States where on 24 September 1869 it was a way to mark the start of the festive season.
