A MAN from Vosloorus in Ekurhuleni was robbed at gunpoint by two thugs on Christmas Day, 25 December.

The 36-year-old said he had a wonderful time with his family and a friend on Christmas Day.

He said his day turned into a nightmare at about 8pm when he went out to accompany his friend who lives a few streets away from his home.

"When I came back, I saw two men coming towards my direction and thought they would pass.

"When they were closer to me, they pulled out a firearm and demanded money," said the victim.

He said he told them he had no money and one of the thugs searched him and took out his two cellphones.

"They then asked me to open the banking app on my phone and told me to do a cash send.

"I had R5 000 in my account, and I had to do two cash sends of R2 00 and R3 000 to one of the suspect's phones," he said.

The victim told Daily Sun thugs are on the mission to rob people of their hard-earned cash.

The man said he wanted people to be aware of robbers who were targeting people in the streets.

He said during the robbery, one of the thugs said they were too clever and knew people didn't carry cash anymore as they used banking apps.

The victim said the thugs were between the ages of 25 and 30.

"I may have lost my phone and money, but I'm thankful they didn't shoot me," he said.

Police spokeswoman Captain Sekgobela said a case of armed robbery has been opened and the matter is under investigation.
