A GRAVEYARD in Ga-Ratjeke Village outside Bolobedu, Limpopo was vandalised, and now the residents want answers.
The shocked villagers said on Thursday, 8 June they discovered that seven tombstones had been vandalised at the graveyard near the sports ground.
They told Daily Sun they have no idea who's behind the incident and were worried that their loved ones will no longer rest in peace as they've been disrespected.
"Tombstones are erected in honour of our departed loved ones. Now it's shocking when people disturb the dead. They are no longer afraid of being cursed or to attract bad luck because it's taboo to vandalise or destroy tombstones at graveyards," said Agnes Masilo (36).
Other villagers believe that nyaope boys vandalised the tombstones, saying that the perpetrators forgot a beer bottle and shoes at the graveyard. They believe that the dead made them forget those items so they could help villagers identify the culprits.

Another villager Thabiso Maleka (29) said growing up, they knew graveyards were a very dangerous place to play in.
"We are surprised when people do something like this. They no longer respect the dead. Those who vandalised our graves must be punished," he said.
Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said they were investigating a case of violation of graves in Ga-Ratjeke Village.
"It is alleged that seven tombstones at the graveyard have been damaged, and the motive is unknown. The suspect is unknown at the moment, but investigations are continuing," said Ledwaba.
