KING Misuzulu attended umembeso and umkhehlo for his first wife, Queen Ntokozo Mayisela-Zulu, at her home in Newcastle, KZN, on Saturday.
Umembeso is the exchange of gifts, while umkhehlo is the pre-wedding ceremony. But the actual date for the wedding has not been shared.
King Misuzulu has two wives.
He first paid lobola for Queen Ntokozo, who he has two children with, last year. His second wife is Queen Noziwe Mulela from Eswatini, who he finished paying lobola for last month.
The late King Zwelithini’s wives, Queen Jane Ndlovu and Queen Zola Mafu, attended the ceremony.
King Misuzulu’s aunt Princess Thembi Zulu-Ndlovu, who is in the faction opposing him as king, surprised many when she attended the ceremony to support her nephew.
King Misuzulu’s spokesman Prince Thulani Zulu said the royal house is in the final steps of the king’s wedding ceremony. “On Friday, we presented the Mayisela family with more cows on top of the ones we paid for lobola. I will not say how many, but it was a gift from the king’s heart,” he said.
“We’re thankful that the president recognised King Misuzulu and we look forward to the coronation. The royal house has established a coronation committee to work with the government to come up with a date.”
Queen Jane said they are over the moon about the ceremony.
“We are happy King Zwelithini’s family is growing,” she said.
