SECURITY guards got ambushed while they were doing a routine patrol.
They were attacked during a robbery by a heavily armed gang at Buzzi shop in Acornhoek old complex near Bushbuckridge on Sunday, 19 March, at about 1:25am.
One of the surviving guards said when the heavily armed tsotsis emerged, a crossfire shootout.
"They started shooting as they made their way into the shop. But we retaliated, and two security guards got shot in the leg and the stomach. The gang bombed the cash safe inside using explosives before they made off with an undisclosed amount of cash," said one of the guards.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala confirmed that more than ten unknown suspects attacked the Buzzi shop at Acornhoek Old Complex and detonated the safe.
"Cops went to the scene, and upon arrival, they discovered that the safe had been detonated, and two security guards were shot.
"Medical personnel were summoned to the scene, and the victims were transported to the local hospital for treatment," he said.
