The incident happens just two days after Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga and two protectors were robbed.
The incident took place in the early hours of Monday morning, 6 November between the N3 Vosloorus and Heidelberg while the minister was en route to Pretoria.
At the time of the incident, the tyres of the minister’s car were punctured by spikes, bringing the car to a stop and enabling the criminals to rob the occupants of their valuables.
This was confirmed by the national Department of Transport's head of communications, Collen Msibi.
A manhunt for the suspects has since been launched.
