MAMELODI residents woke up to the news of four people killed in Khalambazo, Tshwane on Friday, 19 May.
Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela said primary investigations suggest that they were involved in Boko Haram activities.
Mawela said two of the deceased were previously arrested by their team and were found to be involved in extortion activities, hijacking contract sites and taking control of the hostel in B3.
"Unfortunately, due to lack of cooperation of witnesses and the complainants, the cases against the two individuals were withdrawn," he said.
He said this during Operation Okae Molao in Mamelodi on Saturday, 20 May, where Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela and her management were part of the operation.
Mawela said, for now, cops can't confirm whether it's gang-related or not.

“What police know is that four people were killed and we don't know the motive of the killings. As we continue with the investigation, we will be able to establish the motive of the killings. I can say the two deceased were involved in extorting the businesspeople around Mamelodi, extorting recyclers at the Heatherly Dumpsite, and hijacking of the properties," he said.
Meanwhile, Manamela said cops are hard at work.
She said this is an interprovincial operation, and they decided to be part of the day in Gauteng and see how Operation Molao is being implemented.
"This is something good that we intend to implement in Mpumalanga because we are even sharing criminals," said Manamela.
Mawela said police have arrested 744 wanted suspects and he is happy about that.
