Senkgome Kobe celebrating after the handover.

A GENEROUS act of kindness has brightened the lives of two families in Limpopo as they were presented with brand new homes on Monday, 26 February.

Ithuba, South Africa’s national lottery operator, in collaboration with Disabled People South Africa (DPSA), identified the qualifying beneficiaries.

A family of 13 and an orphan (12) from a disadvantaged background found new beginnings in their brand-new homes. They complete with water tanks and solar geysers.

Among the beneficiaries for the housing initiative are 33-year-old Senkgome Kobe from Bochum, a determined woman facing a disability that confines her to a wheelchair.

She lives with her siblings, mother and gogo.

Expressing her gratitude to Daily Sun, Kobe shared that it's a dream come true to receive keys to their new home, which features a ramp accommodating her wheelchair.

“We're also excited because we used to face challenges of living in a leaking one-roomed rondavel house, where we used to put bowls to catch the rain,” she said.

A young blind boy, Mike Mabuza from Ga-Malokelo, was also among the recipients.

It was reported that his parents died when he was just over a year old, and he was taken in by his guardian, Delsie Segadetla.

“We are happy to move into a house designed to cater to Mike's needs and easy mobility, we consider it a blessing.

“We feel so fortunate to have been chosen by Ithuba to receive a new home,” Delsie said.

Michelle van Trotsenburg, head of marketing corporate affairs, said they have built several houses in all nine provinces, aligning with their core values of ubuntu in building communities.

“Each family's needs were considered when building these new homes, in restoring the dignity of the beneficiaries. Ithuba remains committed, guided by the values of Ubuntu which is the driving force behind the housing initiative. We will continue giving homes to deserving families in support of communities,” she said.
