Two bust for 'protection fee' extortion

WESTERN Cape police from the Extortion Team arrested two suspects for extortion and recovered R3500-00

Police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said, “The team received information that two male persons were demanding a protection fee from a businesswoman who owned a shop in Grabouw and two others in Strand police precincts respectively.

“The suspects were demanding a monthly payment of R7000-00. Both suspects reside in Bellville.”

He added, that an operation was conducted and resulted in the arrest of the two suspects aged 34 and 38 respectively.

“They are due to appear in the Grabouw Magistrates court on Monday, 08 August 2022 on the mentioned charges.”
