THE Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) SRC president Keamogetswe Masike has been suspended by the university for allegations of misconduct.
According to the suspension letter, Masike allegedly participated in unauthorised student action that infringed on the activities of other students or destabilised the functioning of the university.
"During the period of your suspension, you will not be allowed to enter any premises of the university or participate in any activities of the university unless given written permission by the vice chancellor," read the letter.
But Masike said he is not moved by the suspension.
"I heard about my suspension on Thursday, 11 August. We had peaceful demonstrations on campuses. It can't be business as usual while students are attending classes on empty stomachs.

"We want the third party companies that got tenders to handle students' money from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme to be reviewed. We have called the attention of Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Dr Blade Nzimande to attend to some of the issues we raised. We want to hold Nzimande and the financial bank founders accountable," he said.
He said they want the tender reversed and for students to go back to the normal process of receiving money in their banks.
"We have never vandalised anything and not even burnt a tyre. The university is not an enemy in this matter. I will sleep in peace with the suspension. The only thing I have done is to stand firm in the struggle of those I lead," he said.
Masike said he was suspended on false allegations.
"If the matter is not robustly dealt with, we will not deter from the struggle. We will organise and strategise moving forward. It will not be business as usual," he said.
He said the suspension was a plot against him and students were not happy about it.
