IT seems thugs don’t fear God.
A church tent in Mohlakeng, Randfontein, was stolen on Wednesday, 23 February.
Pastor Itumeleng Mofolo told Daily Sun he knew crime was high in Mohlakeng, but never thought tsotsis would steal from the house of God.
He said what’s more shocking is that their church is less than 500m from the police station.
“Even if they don’t fear God, I least expected them to fear the police. But I guess that didn’t bother them,” said Pastor Itumeleng.
He said the stolen tent was worth R60 000 and congregants took a while to put the money together.

“We now hold our church services in a shack, which is sad, but God is within us,” said the pastor.
He said it seems the thugs just wanted to shut them down as they only took the tent and left the pulpit, chairs and tables.
Pastor Itumeleng said although they didn’t know who stole the tent, he’s certain people around Mohlakeng knew the suspects.
He said crime had got worse in the community since the outbreak of Covid-19.
“A lot of people lost their jobs and some have turned to drugs because they don’t know where their next meal would come from.
“Young girls now smoke nyaope and hang around corners. Things are really bad here,” he said.
The pastor asked SunReaders to help put the criminals behind bars.
“If anyone has information that might help the police arrest these perpetrators, please contact us or the police.”
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said a case of theft was opened. No suspects have been arrested yet.
