A 45-YEAR-OLD security guard was shot dead on Tuesday, 3 May, by two men during an attempt to rob a Post Office in East London, Eastern Cape.

According to Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, it is alleged that two men wearing police uniform entered the Post Office in Gonubie, East London, on Tuesday at about 10am.

Kinana said the men attempted to gain access through the security gate, but the guard on site refused them access.

“This is when he was fatally shot. The suspects managed to steal his firearm before fleeing the scene in a blue Suzuki Expresso,” Kinana said.

He said the getaway vehicle was recovered moments later abandoned in Sandy Springs in East London.

A plastic bag containing police uniform was also seized.

Kinana has urged anyone with information that can help the cops to arrest the suspects to call CrimeStop on 08600 10111.

Meanwhile, in another incident that happened on the same day, cops from the East London Flying Squad spotted a suspicious vehicle, a silver Toyota Corolla, parked near a tavern in Santini squatter camp in East London.

“Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered an automatic rifle with three magazines and ammunition.
