A GANG of tsotsis broke into Xingala-Makamu Primary School in Arthurstone outside Dwarsloop, Mpumalanga, on Thursday, 8 December.

According to the school governing body secretary Samuel Malope, the thugs helped themselves to food meant for the school feeding scheme and also made off with a sound system, projector and laptops valued at R53 000.

Malope said it appeared the gang gained access into the admin block by breaking several burglar bars and doors. “They spent time cooking and eating part of the food meant for the feeding scheme. They damaged the CCTV camera lens and ran away,” he said.

Malope said the thugs took advantage of the fact that the school has one security guard working day shift.

“We’re appealing to the Mpumalanga education department to improve security,” he said.

Police spokesman Colonel Donald Mdhluli said Mhala police were investigating a business burglary case.

“A school clerk reported for duty and found the burglar door cut open.

“Four laptops, a projector and other electrical equipment to the value of R53 000 were reportedly stolen. No arrests have been made,” he said. Mdhluli urged anyone with information to contact Lieutenant-Colonel Thabile Maseko on 082 469 1250, or CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
