THE people of Tshwane are fearing for their lives.   

This after a random shooting happened at a tavern called Nkadimeng Café in Jukulyn, Soshanguve, in the early hours of Sunday morning, 11 June.   

A video of the incident has since been making rounds on social media.   

The footage shows a gunman entering the establishment and shooting multiple times at patrons enjoying their beer.   

The male and female patrons used couches as shields to protect themselves from the shooting.     

After the shooting, the man is seen leaving the room.   

The management of the tavern has since released a media statement.   

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred at our establishment.   

"Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and we are devastated by the senseless violence that took place,” the statement said.   

They said on Sunday, an unknown man driving a white VW Polo pulled up near their tavern and ran into the establishment holding a firearm and started shooting randomly at patrons, leaving some wounded.

“We are relieved and grateful that no lives were lost in the shooting. We want to assure you that we are cooperating fully with the authorities as they investigate this incident. We will be reviewing our security policies and procedures to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff in the future,” they said. 

They said that they understand that the event has caused fear and anxiety.   

“We want to reassure you that we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who enters our doors. We will be taking steps to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. We take full responsibility for what happened, and we are committed to doing everything we can to support the victims and their families. We will also be working closely with community leaders to address the root causes of violence in our community,” the statement read.  

They said their doors will remain closed until further notice.  

Police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said cops are investigating a case of attempted murder after 15 people were injured during the incident.
