CONFISCATED liquor went down the drain in Tshwane on Friday, 28 July.

Tshwane district police commissioner, Major-General Azwinndini Nengovhela, led the destruction of alcohol at Pretoria West Water Waste Disposal.

He destroyed a total of 7 650 590 ML of liquor.

The members of the Tshwane district policing area gathered for the destruction of confiscated liquor under the command of Nengovhela.

All 36 stations were present with their confiscated liquor.

He emphasised that these operations and inspections will continue and urged all liquor outlets to comply with the liquor act, Act 59 of 2003, and all provisions of their liquor licenses.

Nengovhela also urged the public to drink booze responsibly, as public drinking and drunkenness will not be tolerated.

"This liquor was seized during crime prevention operations such as Operation Shanela, day-to-day station operations, and compliance inspections on liquor outlets and illegal shebeens," he said.

He said that 7 650 590 ML of liquor was destroyed after all necessary procedures and criminal cases had been finalised, and destruction orders were issued.

Nengovhela extended his heartfelt appreciation and congratulations to all members who selflessly participated in the operations.

"He urged police to continue their efforts to protect the communities they serve," he said.
