A FAMILY from Tshwane has lost a life due to load shedding.

This after their son (15) tried to protect his community by trying to catch izinyoka during the load shedding on Thursday morning, 25 January at about 2am.

The deceased's sister and residents of Ga-Rankuwa allegedly tried to catch robbers who had stolen their cables.

They chased the men. Unfortunately, the robbers were armed and opened fire, shooting 15-year-old teen in the head and fled.

The deceased's sister, who was present at the scene, said she didn't see her brother being shot. But when she ran after hearing the gunshots, she realised that her younger brother had been shot.

"When I returned to the park, he was lying there with a bleeding bullet wound. We took him to Ga-Rankuwa Hospital, but he died the next day, on Friday, 26 January," she said.

A memorial service for the deceased was held on Thursday, 1 February at the Mocha-Kgasi Secondary School in Kgabalatsane, attended by about 1 200 people, his family and members of the community.

The pastors were invited to pray for the community.
