MTUNZINI High Court convicted and sentenced Phumulani Mjaza (33), Musa Nelson Phahla (37) and Sabelo Enoc Mdletshe (38) for the murder of Nduduzo Ntuli (31).
The sentence was handed down on Friday, 12 August.
Police spokeswoman Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said in a statement: "On 30 June 2020 the deceased arrived at his home in Maphumulo. As he was parking his minibus, he was approached by three men.
"The suspects wanted to take his taxi and he attempted to fight them off. They shot at him and he was declared dead on the scene.
"When Ntuli’s father heard the gunshots he went out to investigate and he managed to restrain one of the suspects while the other two fled.
Ngcobo said a case of murder was reported and investigated by Maphumulo police.
She added that the detective who was allocated the docket worked around the clock to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. Two days later the other two suspects were arrested at Hlahleni in Maphumulo.

“Mjaza, Phahla and Mdletshe were charged with murder, attempted carjacking and unlawful possession of a firearm."
Mjaza was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 10 years for attempted carjacking and a further 10 years for unlawful possession of a firearm.
His co-accused were each sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and a further 10 years for attempted carjacking.
