accreditation

A 50-YEAR-OLD suspect was shot by a traffic cop after pointing the officer with a toy gun while trying to speed off with a suspected stolen truck on the N1 on Friday morning, 9 September in Orange Farm, south of Joburg.

Police spokesman Sergeant Shaun Motsapi said that the truck driver was pulled over by Gauteng Traffic on the N1 in Orange Farm towards Vanderbijlpark. Motsapi said that while the driver was talking to the traffic officer, they suddenly noticed the passenger in the truck driving off and in an attempt to stop the vehicle, the suspect allegedly pointed the officer with a firearm with the intention to shoot him.

According Motsapi, the officer pulled out his service firearm and shot at the suspect, and he sustained a gunshot wound on the forehead. He said it was later discovered that the suspect was using a toy gun in his commission of crime, said Motsapi.
