MPUMALANGA police need help to find the suspect(s) behind the murder of a mother and daughter.

The 24-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter were found dead in their house at Siyathemba squatter camp in Balfour on Monday, 6 June.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela has since condemned the incident.

Mpumalanga police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said: “According to the report, police received information that there was a murder that occurred at the said place and swiftly attended to it where upon arrival, they found the woman lying on the kitchen floor unresponsive as well as the two-year-old girl’s lifeless body in the bedroom with an injury on her neck. They were both certified dead at the scene by paramedics.”

Mohlala said it was further revealed that the woman’s five-month-old child was allegedly taken by his father and is unharmed.

Mohlala said police are requesting anyone with information that will assist with the case to contact Sergeant Nhlanhla Tshabalala on 082 635 7143 or call CrimeStop on 08600 10111.

Alternatively, members of the public can send information via the My SAPS app. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

“The provincial commissioner has once again expressed her dismay after this incident and has vowed that police will continue to fight the scourge of crimes against women and children. She has further urged the team of investigators to ensure the perpetrator(s) is speedily arrested,” Mohlala said.
