THUGS allegedly fled with an undisclosed sum of money after blowing up the ATMs.
This comes after two ATMs were bombed at an Engen Garage opposite the Naledi Police Station in Soweto in the early on Wednesday morning, 10 April.
When Daily Sun asked Gauteng police commissioner Major-General Tommy Mthombeni where the cops were when the incident happened, he said: "One will ask, didn’t the police officer know that their neighbour is being robbed or didn’t they see this people? Sometimes it's quite difficult but we understand that it's concerning. We will make sure that we constantly speak to the law enforcements on the ground to be alert."
Mthombeni said that they have a parade briefing which includes the wearing of the bullet proof jackets to ensure that the vehicles which are going out must be operational ready and ensure that they're backed up in terms of rifle and can respond accordingly.

He went on to say that the ATM bombings could be linked to the cash in transit heists, especially in Soweto.
A resident said he was woken up by an unusual loud bang and was shocked to see what had happened.
"Imagine having to go into town to withdraw money. If this continues, businesses will not be interested in investing in our township," she said.
She asked in amazement: "Where were the police?
