ON MONDAY, a truck full of Corona beer, still packed in sealed boxes, was hijacked in the Paarden Eiland area of Cape Town.
The truck had gone but on Wednesday around 1am, police found people offloading the booze at a church in Parow.
They were pulling a trailer with a different vehicle which didn’t have number plates.
A source told Daily Sun that only 100 boxes were missing when the container was recovered.
Western Cape police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said 11 men between the ages of 18 and 50 were arrested and appeared briefly in the Bellville Magistrates Court on Thursday, 17 November. They remain in custody for bail applications.
“This office can confirm that the provincial serious and violent crime unit is investigating a truck hijacking case after a truck was hijacked on Marine Drive, Maitland on Monday,” said Twigg.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are subject to a police investigation and the finer aspects will not be divulged to the media at the stage. Anyone with any information is kindly requested to contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111.”
Last month, two men were bust with 216 boxes of Corona booze worth R600 000. The booze was stolen in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, on 6 October.
