GAUTENG Education MEC Matome Chiloane will visit the family of Sibusiso Mbatha in Thokoza, Ekurhuleni, on Thursday, 26 October.

The grade 6 pupil from Khehlekile Primary School in Thokoza, Ekurhuleni, took his own life on Monday, 23 October, after allegedly being bullied at school.

Mbatha was allegedly found hanging in the bathroom at home on Monday, 23 October.

The Gauteng Department of Education spokesman, Steve Mabona, said the MEC is saddened to have learned about the death of Mbatha.

“We have since launched an investigation around this matter as the department,” he said.

He said the department has been working with the Department of Social Development to assist school pupils.

“The MEC wishes to convey its condolences to the family and assure them about the support they will receive from the department,” Mabona said.
