The Hawks in KZN arrested a suspect for the murder of Sergeant Dumisani Cele.

ON Friday, 27 October, Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested a 23-year-old man for the murder of Sergeant Dumisani Cele (45,) who was fatally shot at Inanda in KZN.

According to Hawks spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, Sergeant Cele, who was stationed at PSS Durban Harbour, was off duty when he was shot by the suspect in the Bhambayi area, Inanda, on 2 April.

“It's alleged that he was standing at the tuck shop next to his vehicle when the suspect fired shots at him. He was declared dead a few meters away from the scene.

“A case of murder was reported at Inanda police station, and the case docket was allocated to the Hawks members for further investigation,” he said.

He added that following an intensive investigation, the suspect was arrested in the Ntuzuma area and briefly appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court.

He was remanded in custody, and the case was postponed to Friday, 3 November, for a formal bail application.

The KZN Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General Lesetja Senona, welcomed the arrest and applauded the members for the breakthrough.
