THE residents of Soweto continue to live in fear as criminals rule the township.
But there's a sigh of relief after the criminals who have been terrorising the community around Meadowlands and Dube were arrested by members of Neighbourhood Watch.
The two male suspects were found in Dube with a gun and suspected stolen sneakers. During interrogation, they were found to be carrying a toy gun.
The suspected criminals used the toy gun to intimidate people and they also robbed people with the same weapon.
In the video circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter, the two suspects introduce themselves and state where they are from in Soweto.
One of the suspects admitted to using his toy gun to rob people and claimed that the owner of the gun lives in the hostel.
The suspect, who was found with the gun in his hand, said that the toy gun didn't belong to him.
One suspect said in the video: "We borrowed this gun so we could rob people with it. We just took it from the hostel and my brother here asked me to accompany him to zone 10. We were arrested when we tried to rob a man who lives in Meadowlands zone 10. There were three of us and one was running after him. I was just asked to accompany these people."
Residents said the criminals were handed over to the police.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said the police had no report of such an incident.
