THE City of Ekurhuleni has just employed 1 200 community safety marshals to help fight crime.
During a welcoming ceremony at the OR Tambo Government Precinct in Germiston on Tuesday, 5 September, MMC for Community Safety Councillor Sizakele Masuku instructed the marshals to be extremely vigilant against crime and suspicious activities when they patrol the streets of Ekurhuleni.
“These men and women will play a crucial role in gathering data and intelligence relevant to future EMPD operations. They will also look into other social ills in the communities and act as a bridge between the community and the metro on crime and related issues,” said Masuku.

The recruitment of marshals is part of the president's employment programme.
The MMC said it's time for the communities to take back their streets from the criminals.
"We must take back our streets from criminals and make them safer again," she said.
She urged members of the community to work closely with the new marshals because crime affects everyone.
"It starts with you loving yourself, loving your family, and loving your country. If you do that, you cannot stand and do nothing when you see crime rising in your country," she said.
