A MOTHER is furious after her daughter was viciously attacked by two pit bulls.
The 36-year-old from block KK in Soshanguve, Tshwane, said the incident happened on Saturday, 30 October after she sent her daughter (14) to fetch money a customer owed her.
She said when her child went out, she didn’t notice two dogs were roaming the street.
“She tried to run and get help but the dogs caught up with her and bit her all over her body. She is still in pain and hides whenever she sees a dog passing in front of the gate.”
The mother said her daughter would have died if a resident didn’t rescue her.
“One of the dogs ran away when the resident threw stones at it but the other one continued to bite her. Residents then beat it with an iron rod but it continued until they poured hot water on its face.”
She said her child was left with injuries to her legs, right ear, left arm, hand and thigh.
“Seeing my own flesh and blood in such a terrible condition was the worst moment of my life. I am still trying to think why the owners of the dogs didn’t lock them up,” she said.
Her daughter was taken to Dr George Mukhari Hospital and released the same day. “Even though the owner of the dog came to ask for forgiveness, it doesn’t take away the pain and scars,” said the mum.
A relative (21) said the child could have been killed due to the negligence of the dogs’ owner. She said the owner only gave the family R1 500 for medication and transport but medical treatment had cost at least R6 000.
SPCA senior inspector Nazareth Appalsamy said he was not aware of the incident.
“If you give me the details, we will be able to investigate further,” he said.
Gauteng police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele said a case of assault was opened but no arrests had been made yet.
