A DRIVER (32) who was allegedly speeding hit and flung a teenage girl (18) on top of a house in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town on Sunday, 9 October.
Residents said the man, who was driving a Corsa along Bonteheuwel Avenue towards Bluegum Road, hit a 32-year-old pedestrian before hitting the teenager.
Ward councillor Angus McKenzie said it’s alleged that the unlicensed driver took his father’s car without his permission.
“The female pedestrian was knocked with such impact that her body was flung on top of a roof. An unknown off duty paramedic worked to keep her alive until emergency services arrived on scene,” said McKenzie.
Police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said: “The victims and driver sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals by paramedics for medical treatment. The girl died in hospital due to injuries sustained. Bishop Lavis police opened a case of reckless and negligent driving and culpable homicide. Investigations continue.”
The man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
MMC of Safety and Security, Jean-Pierre Smith, said: “The carnage on our roads, our enforcement and numerous appeals are clearly not deterring drivers hell bent on getting behind the wheel drunk.
“It is disheartening to see such absolute disregard for the law.”
