A TEENAGER has been stabbed to death for allegedly stealing a cellphone.
He was killed on the streets of Leiden in Delft on Sunday afternoon, 15 January, after he apparently tried to run.
He was cornered.
Witnesses said the boy was stabbed but he continued to run.
He was stabbed again until he fell to the ground and the stabbing continued.
Onlookers said he was stabbed 12 times.
A resident, who lives on Gilo Street, said she saw the young man being chased into Tiecen Street.
When she went to check later, she saw the boy lying on the road.
“He allegedly stole a phone and ran away but he was chased. The owners of the phone stabbed him in the back, took the phone and fled the scene,” she said.
The boy’s family was on the scene but could not speak to the SunTeam as they were still in shock.
A witness who lives on Tiecen Street said when police arrived, they opened his shirt.
“He was bleeding from the back,” she said.

Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “Delft police responded to a complaint of murder when they found the victim lying on the ground with stab wounds to his back.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The unknown suspects fled the scene. A murder case was registered for investigation.”
