Fifteen bullets pumped into Taximan's body

HE worked at a taxi rank as a patrol squad member.

Sadly, Simphiwe Jiba (32) was shot dead by three men at KwaMhlanga Crossroads, Mpumalanga, on Tuesday, 2 August.

Fifteen bullets were pumped into his body.

Simphiwe’s mother Maria Jiba (49), from Phola Park, said she sent him to school to be educated so he can get a good job.

“I am very sad about what happened to my son. He was killed like a dog. I knew that one day this was going to happen because many people have died at the taxi rank in the same way. We want justice and for the culprits to be brought to book,” she said.

She said her son was with his girlfriend when the incident happened.

“I was at my business when I got the call. When I arrived at the scene, I found my son lying in a pool of blood. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I froze and felt the whole world weighing on my shoulders,” she said.

Simphiwe’s father Nkosinami Jiba (53) told Daily Sun losing his firstborn child was very painful.

“I was at work when my daughter called me to tell me the sad news. I didn’t believe it until I arrived at the scene. My son had a position at the taxi rank and I believe that is the reason he was killed. It has become a trend for people working at the rank to die like this,” he said.

Police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said according to information, shots were allegedly fired from a blue Toyota Tazz with four unknown suspects.

“Nine spent cartridges, four live rounds of ammunition and one projectile of a 9mm was found on the scene,” he said.

Mohlala said the motive for the attack is currently unknown.

He said a case of murder has been opened, but no arrests have been made yet.
