ONE person was killed and another wounded in a tavern shooting on the morning of Saturday, 3 September.
Four suspects stormed into Mpho’s Tavern in phase 8 of Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane, and held patrons at gunpoint before robbing them of cash and cellphones.
A tavern worker said when the thugs entered, they started firing shots.
He said patrons ran in all directions and unfortunately, two were shot.
“When they entered, they fired two bullets. Some patrons ran to the toilet,” he said.
Tavern owner Zanele Laka said the incident was robbery. He said the thugs were trying to scare patrons but they ended up killing one and wounding another.
“The thugs stole almost R15 000. I would say money is nothing, considering that someone lost their life,” said Zanele.
Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said cops were searching for four suspects.
“It is alleged that the suspects fired shots while inside the tavern. One patron was fatally wounded and the other sustained injuries and was taken to a medical care centre for treatment,” said Masondo.
He said police opened cases of murder, attempted murder and business robbery for investigation.
