Suspects killed in shout-out at popular Jozi mall

GAUTENG police are making life difficult for dangerous criminals in the province.

This comes after they shot and killed four suspects at Greenstone Mall in Ekurhuleni during a shoot-out on Thursday, 17 March. One of the suspects was injured and another was arrested at the scene.

Police also had their hands full trying to get curious onlookers away from the crime scene.

Acting Gauteng police commissioner, Major-General Girly Mbele said six suspects went to the clothing store, Studio 88, and made off with clothing and cellphones

. She said the suspects started shooting while in the shop before driving off in a white Nissan Almera with the stolen goods.

“When they drove out, they came across our members, who had heard the shots because they were near Greenstone Mall.

“A shoot-out ensued and they shot at our members who retaliated.

“It resulted in four suspects being fatally wounded.

“One was injured and one was arrested. Three unlicensed firearms were recovered,” she said.

Mbele said the items taken from the shop were also recovered inside the getaway car.

She applauded the cops involved for their good work and swift reaction to the scene.

“Our members did very well in terms of reacting to the scene and arresting the suspects,” she said.
