accreditation

TWO hijackers aged between 19 and 32, who were arrested by the police in possession of toy guns, appeared in the Emalahleni Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 12 July.

They face charges of hijacking, possession of suspected stolen property as well as contravention of the Immigration Act.

They were remanded in custody for further investigation pending their next appearance on 20 August.

Police spokesman, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said on Monday, 11 June, members of crime prevention from Emalahleni followed up on information about an incident on 25 June.

During the incident, the driver of a grey Toyota Corolla stopped next to the N12 Road to relieve himself.

“The suspects allegedly hijacked him. The members were led to a house in Klarinet, Emalahleni and upon arrival, they found two suspects in possession of the hijacked vehicle.

“They also found suspected stolen property such as a chainsaw, water pump and three toy guns. The suspects were then arrested,” said Mohlala.

He said the police also discovered that the suspects did not have proper documentation to be in South Africa and members are working in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain their status in the country.

The Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela, has welcomed the sterling work done by cops.

“We hope that the breakthrough will also help to solve other outstanding cases around the Emalahleni area and surroundings,” she said.
