TWO men, driving a black Audi, fired shots and injured people in a drive-by shooting on Monday, 5 December.
The incident happened in Heideveld near Gugulethu, Western Cape.
Metro cops who were in the area heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene. The community described the car and when cops saw it, a chase ensued. When the suspects saw them, they threw a pistol out of the window.
“Members of the camera response unit heard that the car was headed their way, so they set up a post and the suspects crashed into the patrol vehicle,” said Metro police spokeswoman Ruth Solomons.
Officers arrested two suspects, aged 28 and 32, on charges of attempted murder, reckless and negligent driving as well as possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition and a stolen car.
A resident told Daily Sun that she saw cops chasing the black car but didn’t think it had anything to do with the gunshots she had heard earlier.
“I was happy when I heard that the suspects were the shooters and they had been arrested,” she said.
“We are tired of gangs, and when cops arrest them and take guns from the streets, we feel better.”
Captain Nowonga Sukwana confirmed that Manenberg police arrested two men for attempted murder and other crimes.
“There were reports of a gang shooting in Linda Court, Heideveld, where a 21-year-old and 25-year-old were shot and injured.
“The suspects collided with a Metro police vehicle on the corner of Jakes Gerwel and Bluegum Road. At this stage, we can’t confirm that if it was gang-related as the matter is still under investigation,” said Sukwana.
