WHEN the robber entered the shop holding a cup he looked harmless – until he pulled out a gun.
A 50-year-old armed man allegedly robbed a local supermarket in Kagiso, Mogale City, of an undisclosed amount of cash at gunpoint.
According to the shop owner, on Monday, 14 November, at about 3.30pm the suspect entered the shop holding a cup in his hand and suddenly produced a firearm, pointing it at the security guard. He ordered the guard to lie down on the floor and screamed at cashiers to give him cash while waving his gun around.
“We took out the cash drawer from the till and handed it over to the man before instructing the colleagues to give the suspect more cash,” said the shop owner.
He said the suspect ordered the employees to lie on the floor before fleeing the scene on foot.
“No shots were fired during the robbery,” he said. The matter was reported to Kagiso police who launched a manhunt for the armed suspect.
Kagiso police spokesman Captain Solomon Sibiya said the suspect was traced through information they received.
“He was charged with armed robbery and detained at Kagiso Police Station. He will appear at the Kagiso Magistrates Court soon,” said Sibiya.
