AFTER he saw his photo in the Daily Sun on 3 May, Spikiri became restless.
He then contacted his ex-girlfriend and begged her to cancel the case.
The woman agreed to meet with him and together they went to the police station to “cancel” the case. Little did he know that he was sending himself to jail as he found cops waiting for him.
Spikiri, whose real name is Mandla Nkosi, was whisked to the Duduza police cells on Thursday, 12 May, and he appeared in the Nigel Magistrates Court the following day.
This comes after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend after she dumped him for allegedly being abusive. He allegedly also burnt down her car.
“I was not going to let him get off just like that because he was going to end up killing me. Besides, I was also going to be arrested for opening a false case had I agreed to cancel it,” said the woman.
“That man has a lot of anger and every time he met me on the street, he assaulted me badly.”
The woman said she had to go to a doctor in February after sustaining serious facial injuries as a result of the alleged abuse.
“Maybe he will repent and know that women are not his punching bags. I used to live in fear because he vowed to harm me further when he met me in the streets,” she said.
The woman said she was now happy Spikiri had been bust.
Police spokesman Sergeant Harry Manaka said they took cases of gender-based violence seriously.
He said Spikiri would make his second court appearance on Thursday, 19 May.
