GOGO Beauty Sikeyi (64) from Tafelsig in Mitchells Plain used to lock up her two grandchildren to save them the pain of seeing other kids wearing school uniforms.

This is after she applied for the kids to go to school. The gogo’s granddaughter, aged 17 and 14 , had been staying at home for the past two years, and the other one could not get a place this year.

But after Daily Sun told of the gogo’s pain, both kids secured places to learn.

The SunTeam spoke to the department and they assisted the two girls.

“You took my pain away,” said the gogo.

She said it caused her so much heartache to see her grandchildren not going to school.

When Daily Sun arrived at her house on Saturday, 28 May, she had just come back from a women’s prayer where she thanked God for securing places for her grandchildren.

Gogo said she avoided any topic that had to do with her children’s school situation.

“I had given up,” she said.

Her grandchildren Lelethu Sikeyi (14) and Simthandile Sikeyi (17) said they were over the moon and will do everything to make their gogo happy.

“We are grateful to Daily Sun. We will take this opportunity to work extra-hard at school in order to pass and make our grandmother happy,” said Lelethu who is now at Mitchells Plain High School.
