DICK Mathebula is happy that the big hole in the road has been fixed.
The 54-year-old used to help motorists navigate their way around the hole in the road at Ramotse Village in Hammanskraal, Tshwane to ensure their safety day and night.
He would also put boards and markings in the middle of the road to indicate the danger.
“I would guard the hole for motorists from 9am to 11pm, to help them avoid accidents,” he said.
He said that he was thankful to the People’s Paper for helping him to highlight the dangers of the road.
Daily Sun published the story, headlined: “Dick guards big pothole.”
According to Dick, for almost two years, motorists have been slamming into the hole on the R101 road in Ramotse.
“This has been giving me nightmares, but now I’m at ease,” Dick told Daily Sun.
Motorists who use the road said they were happy that the hole has finally been closed.
Resident and motorist Sibongile Chauke (45) said when she first saw Dick giving motorists directions, she thought he was playing but now she could see that he loves his kasi.
