THE South African Students Congress (Sasco) and ANC Youth League in Nelson Mandela Bay condemned people who tried to hijack their march.
This after marchers held up placards written: “#HandsOffAndileLungisa” during a march in Port Elizabeth yesterday over student accommodation.
The former ANCYL deputy president was sentenced by the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court to three years in jail for smashing a glass jug over DA councillor, Rano Kayser’s head.

He appealed his conviction and sentence in the Grahamstown High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal, but failed.
Bongani Mani from the ANCYL regional task team said: “Lungisa’s battles are not a political matter. It is a court issue.
“We are more worried about students who held #HandsOffAndileLungisa. They are not with us.”
Sasco regional chairman Nkcubeko Madlalisa said: “People carrying Lungisa posters are trying to hijack our programme.
“This day is meant for student issues.”

Justice for Lungisa spokesman, Abner Mosaase, said Lungisa would petition the high court today for a bail extension as he awaited the outcome of the Constitutional Court application. “We cannot fold our arms when one of our own is being persecuted. Lungisa has been given 48 hours to hand himself over to a correctional facility, which is on Thursday.”
