Stories that shocked MZANSI!

accreditation

THE year started on a bad note when news broke that a nurse had been shot at a hospital by her cop boyfriend in February.

Following the horrific murder of Lebo Monene (30) at Tembisa Hospital, Ekurhuleni, her boyfriend Lucky Madua (30) tried to commit suicide but failed.

When the wheelchair-bound accused was granted bail in September, Lebo’s family said he had been abusive.

As the nation was recovering, it was reported that a father of five in Ratanda, Gauteng, had poisoned four of his kids with Galephirime mixed into an energy drink.

Brothers Katleho (16) and Lehlohonolo Khoabane (13), and Teboho Ngcongwane (6), died within minutes of each other at school. Neo Khoabane (11) survived while the fifth child refused the drink.

Their father (40) tried to commit suicide and later died in hospital.

Meanwhile, a missing 4-5 stopped the funeral of Mpho Tjale (18) from Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, in February. To this day, his parents Bellium (48) and Portia (39) are still seeking answers from the mortuary, which said it did not know what happened.

Another story that left SunReaders in tears was the murder of Bokgabo Poo (4).

After the child went missing while playing with friends in Wattville, Ekurhuleni, in October, residents went searching for her. They later found her body with parts missing. Ntokozo Zikhali appeared in court. The discovery of the bodies of six sex workers in central Joburg in October also sent shock waves across the country, and a 21-year-old is on trial.
